Interpreting a natal (or birth) chart involves looking at the positions of the planets and the houses and the angles made by the planets to each other (aspects). The signs of the zodiac provide the framework in which the planets interact. Even those who are not well versed in astrology, often do know their Sun Sign, which is determined by the astrological sign the Sun was in on the day and month of your birth.
As the earth orbits the sun during the year, the sun appears from earth to move along a line relative to the fixed stars. This line is called the ecliptic, and the band that extends to about eight degrees either side of this line makes up the zodiac. Because the planets orbit the sun on approximately the same plane, they also appear to move through each of the zodiacal signs in accord with the length of time it takes each to move through a complete cycle of orbit. (The outer planets, taking longer to move through each of the signs and the inner planets such as the Moon cycling through each of the twelve signs in the course of a single month).
Ancient astrologers divided the zodiac into twelve equal parts, and named each after a constellation in that area of the sky. These make up the twelve astrological signs:
Gemini, the Twins
Cancer, the Crab
Leo, the Lion
Virgo, the Virgin
Libra, The Scales
Scorpio, the Scorpion
Sagittarius, the Archer
Capricorn, the Goat
Aquarius, the Water- Bearer
Pisces, the Fishes

Sun

The Moon represents our feelings and emotions, the receptivity, imagination and basic feeling tone of a person. It also has an effect on the sense of rhythm, time and timing, it influences our adaptability to change, our mobility and versatility.

or Rising Sign represents the true you. The way you express yourself to the world, your own personal style.
